Comme toutes les anciennes lames elfiques, Sting brille magiquement avec une lumière bleue en présence des Orcs à proximité; Gollum, qui déteste tout ce qui a été fait par les Elfes (à cause de la charge intrinsèque de pureté que les objets Elfes absorbent de leurs créateurs), a peur de Sting.

Cela a aidé Bilbo dans sa confrontation avec Gollum sous la montagne dans Le Hobbit et, plus tard, aussi Frodon grâce à la terreur que la lame inspirée à Gollum, a réussi à apprivoiser (temporairement) dans Le Seigneur des Anneaux.

Sting a la capacité de couper facilement des toiles d'araignées car il a probablement été créé pour ce besoin par ses créateurs de Gondolin, à cette époque il y avait en fait de nombreuses araignées pour les bois qui l'entouraient et il était donc plus pratique d'avoir une épée ou un poignard. utiliser plutôt qu'une grosse épée. Cette lame est d'une terreur absolue pour Shelob et toutes les araignées en général cultivées dans l'obscurité.

Questa replica finemente dettagliata è la versione "Museum Collection" di United che si differenzia per l'aspetto "vissuto" di lama, guardia e pomolo; per i materiali utilizzati di altissimo livello e per la lama realizzata in acciaio al carbonio, come una vera spada da utilizzo concreto. La spada ha pesi e bilanciature ottimali per essere brandita.

Benché per gli standard di uomini ed elfi sia da considerarsi una sorta di daga, per un Hobbit si può considerare una spada a tutti gli effetti. Bilbo diede Pungolo a Frodo, poco prima della partenza della Compagnia dell'Anello da Gran Burrone. Dopo la sconfitta di Sauron alla fine della Terza Era, Frodo la donò a Samvise Gamgee.

Il nome "Pungolo" venne dato alla spada da Bilbo dopo il suo combattimento coi Ragni Giganti di Bosco Atro, nelle prime versioni però il nome dato alla spada è "pungiglione".

Come tutte le antiche lame elfiche, Pungolo risplende magicamente di una luce azzurrina in caso di presenza di Orchi nelle vicinanze; Gollum, che detesta tutto ciò che è stato fatto dagli Elfi (a causa dell'intrinseca carica di purezza che gli oggetti elfici assorbono dai loro creatori), ha paura di Pungolo. Questo ha aiutato Bilbo nel suo confronto con Gollum sotto la montagna ne Lo Hobbit e, successivamente, anche Frodo grazie al terrore che la lama ispirava a Gollum, è riuscito a domarlo (temporaneamente) ne Il Signore degli Anelli. Pungolo ha la capacità di tagliare facilmente le tele di ragno visto che con ogni probabilità era stato creato proprio per questa necessità da suoi creatori di Gondolin, a quel tempo infatti vi erano numerosi ragni per i boschi lì attorno e risultava quindi più comodo avere uno spadino o pugnale da usare piuttosto che una grande spada. Questa lama è di assoluto terrore per Shelob e tutti i ragni in generale cresciuti nell'oscurità.

The blade's flattened diamond shape and equally wide fuller reduced weight, yet retained strength in the end of the blade by stopping just short of the tip. It was equally effective for slashing against lightly armored opponents and for thrusting into more heavily protected enemies. The guard, similar to that of his father's sword, showed a warrior's flourish in that it was formed from a square-edged piece of steel that had been twisted before being curved into a crescent. The handgrip was wide like the blade, and the pommel was an elegant and simple piece of steel that added weight to balance the blade.

Tauriel is a Silvan Elf and daughter of Mirkwood. Her parents were killed by orcs when she was younger and it is hinted that Thranduil looked after her since then. She is a very young elf, around the age of 600, and is insightful into the changing nature of Middle Earth, recognizing the growing evils of the world and the need to eradicate them rather than withdraw into the safety of the elven fortress.

A favorite of King Thranduil and Captain of his Woodland Elven Guard, Tauriel is highly effective and lethal in combat, and primarily employs a reflex bow and two daggers in battle. She is also shown to possess medical knowledge, being able to treat wounds from poisoned weapons. As a native of the woodland realm, she is also a capable tree-climber and an adept leader.

Thorin est né en l'an 2746 de la Troisième Ere (T.E.), fils de Thráin II et petit-fils du roi Thrór, et héritier du titre de Roi sous la Montagne à Erebor. Il avait également deux frères plus jeunes, Frerin et Dís. En l'an 2770, le Dragon Smaug, attiré par les richesses du royaume d'Erebor, l'attaqua violemment. Les Nains, frappés de surprise, furent littéralement surclassés par la force et les pouvoirs de Smaug qui, en peu de temps, parvint à conquérir tout le royaume, conquérir son butin, et força Thorin et son peuple à abandonner leur patrie. Quelques années plus tard, l'ogre Azog le Profanateur commença la bataille d'Azanulbizar (2799) à Nanduhirion à la porte orientale de la Moria.

A cette occasion, le bouclier de Thorin a été brisé et il a utilisé sa hache pour couper une branche de chêne en l'utilisant comme bouclier, gagnant ainsi l'épithète "Oakenshield". Grâce à la bravoure de Thorin, les troupes ennemies furent repoussées et l'armée naine put triompher.

Après cette dernière bataille, Thorin mena son peuple dans les Montagnes Bleues, à l'ouest d'Eriador.
Après la mort de son père en 2841, Thorin devint le nouveau chef de son peuple et commença à préparer un plan pour pouvoir reprendre Erebor et tuer Smaug.
